Our Story

Shenandoah Biotechnology began operations in April of 2006. Our home office and lab facilities are located in Warwick, Pennsylvania, just north of Philadelphia.

Our vision is to provide a superior and affordable source of recombinant cytokines to the academic and industrial scientific research communities.

Our company is comprised of dedicated scientists, just like you, who work in our lab each day.  Their extensive years of combined experience in recombinant protein development and production sets the standard for everything we do.

Our team of scientists and support staff comes from a diverse set of backgrounds, including general biology, biotechnology, molecular biology, developmental biology, and biomedical science. We are a passionate group – curious to our cores, and eager to help you advance your scientific investigations.

We understand your science. When you call with questions or specific requests, you will communicate directly with someone who has the answers you need. Our long list of satisfied customers work in fields ranging from cancer and stem cell research to diabetes, immunology, and infectious diseases.

Shenandoah is a privately held company, so we are in full control of our pricing, quality standards, and supply systems. We are designated as a certified Woman Business Enterprise and are devoted supporters of a national animal rescue program.  And as of March 18, 2020, we are ISO 9001:2015 Certified!  Read our Press Release and View Our Certificate.

Recently, we moved into our new, state-of-the-art GMP facility featuring major upgrades like new bio-command software, a new Tuttnauer autoclave, a 16×16 walk-in ColdBox,  updated HPLC software, a state-of-the-art RODI water system, and a brand new air handling system.  It is here that we will begin to manufacture CTG™– our own line of cell therapy grade products!

At Shenandoah, we strive to be the best so that you can do YOUR best!

What We Do

We are your One-Stop Protein Shop!”

At Shenandoah, we specialize in the manufacturing of recombinant proteins from E.coli. Our current product line is predominately focused on recombinant cytokines, chemokines, and growth factors typically used in a wide variety of research applications.

While we can produce any proteins you need, we focus on those most commonly used in research applications – like PDGF, FGF Basic, and TGF beta 1 – to keep our supply high and prices low. Economics 101.

We are committed to superior quality and 100% transparency. Our Certificates of Analysis are available on each product page (see the Documents tab) BEFORE you buy. There, you can find all the data you’ll need to make an informed purchase decision.

In addition to the products in our catalog, we provide custom services including: inclusion body protein folding and purification, custom protein expression, and bulk (milligrams to grams) protein production of most products.

The Story Behind the Name

For inquiring minds that are curious to know where our company name came from, it is quite an interesting story. The tale begins when one of our owners became involved in animal rescue in 2002. The group she was with was rescuing Maine Coons (a breed of cat) in New York State.

There was one particular 10-day-old, fire-engine-red kitten, who stole their hearts. She had a bad eye infection, but it was love at first sight. She was named Shenandoah, after the Shenandoah Mountains in Virginia, and soon after became known by the nickname Doah Doah. The kitten turned into an incredible, beautiful cat that loved life and having fun. In honor of this special cat companion comes our name –  Shenandoah Biotechnology.

To continue to honor Doah Doah, our company donates $2 per order to Hurricane Pets Rescue (HPR). This is a nationwide, no kill, non-profit rescue that provides shelter and care for the animals that become homeless because of a hurricane. If you are ever in the Philadelphia area, please call us for a tour of our facility. We’d love to show you how fun science can be! Bonus… you can meet our rescue cats that help run the office!
